The Sparrow's Nest

In my own words, the Sparrow's Nest is a homeless resource center among several in Athens, GA.  The exception being you get Gospel music to go with your visit!  If you need food to eat, they will feed you.  If you need a shower to keep clean, they'll let you bathe.  If you need a place to wash your clothes as well as to get "new, gently worn" clothes donated by members of the community, the Sparrow's Nest is there serving those in need.  As one who has benefited from the services available at the Sparrow's Nest with thanks, I encourage you to DONATE today by clicking through this link, and please let them know Gabe sent you!  Ask for Pastor Jamie Scott, Executive Director at 706-549-6693 to confirm your donation, and thank you! If you have "gently worn" clothing to donate there is a drop-off box in the parking lot at 745 Prince Avenue, located next to Dunkin Donuts. Click Here To Donate Today! Spoken For Bicycle Bracelets   The Spoken For bracelet is a patented design perfected over the last 13 years on the sands of sunny St. Thomas. Using Wheelsmith brand stainless steel bicycle spokes, Sergio designs each bracelet and hand turns it into a unique, durable piece of jewelry. Wear it when-ever, where-ever, as the 15 gauge steel band will never fade, tarnish, or break! The chosen beads are American-crafted or are imp orted from Africa, Central America, South American, Asia. Beads are chosen for their durability as well as their appeal. On Homosexuality

I have grown up around gay people.  From my earliest years, one particular gay man, loved my mother and would send her flowers.  My dad didn't care.  He didn't pose any threat to my father.  They told me he was gay and explained what that meant.  I thought it meant happy.  They said it does mean happy, but it also means this... However, I have to confess, I have had some "good" gay experiences, and some not so good gay experiences.  My best gay experience came when I was about twenty years old while attending a training class for my first job after college graduating from UGA with my BS degree in Comedic Justice.  Don't bother checking the records.  They don't acknowledge me, though I still root for the DAWGS!  I've never been tailgating.  I think that might be the reason, but nobody has ever invited me to tailgate.  Otherwise, I would gladly go, but as was the case the other day when I went to the bank to tell them I wante...

I Caught Cash

Now, I'm supposed to be busy wrapping up my story called COOKIES about Plantation County and my Imaginary Girlfriend, who landed a starring role in a horror film... More on that later, but that's exactly what I was reminded to do this morning when I woke up and made my morning jaunt.  Then, I found a nickle! I'm distracted very easily.  If I don't write down what it is I aim to do with my time, then I often forget to do what it is I aimed to do.  But, I didn't forget this time.  I just found a nickle!  If you don't know this song, then you should.  It's one of those songs from childhood, the childhood of many that are well past childhood... It's one of those songs from the era of Sesame Street, which is really a timeless and endless era.  If it wasn't for Sesame Street, I'd hasten to say the world not be the kind of place it is where we hear of endless, and senseless wars, and yet live in what are generally peaceful, and harmonious times...

Dirty Shirley

A couple of women and a man sat talking on the sofa behind me.  I couldn't hear what they were saying, but one of the women really liked to laugh a lot, and heartily.  You know the kind... it's as if they just got high for the first time and you laugh at everything, except she wasn't high, but on life and maybe a couple of drinks. The man had to leave and as he was getting up to go in walks a guy with a dog.  The pair were fairly regular in this dog friendly bar where sometimes they gather in groups and play together, yet without any dog fights, only play fighting and wrestling.  It really is awesome to see dogs interact with each other.  The same thing holds true for them as it does for humans.  The big dog will assert his dominance, except with humans it's not always the biggest dog that is dominant.  Our current form of survival of the fittest has nothing to do with brawn. It's the guy armed with technology and money making the system rely upon ...

Response to Juliet Jones on Obama's National Address, December 6, 2015

Juliet, as a self-described Libertarian (not Liberal) who leans to the right (believing in limited government and low taxation) but is centrist, I listen to both sides. I am amazed at the incessant negative reaction from the right such as this, posted by former Clueless star Stacey Dash. She is now a right wing activist supporting such things as the South Carolina police officer who brutalized an INSUBORDINATE child in the classroom, and the right to display the Confederate battle flag, if you can believe that... http://www.patheos.com/blogs/frenchrevolution/2015/12/06/shorter-obama-dear-islamophobes-im-still-not-serious-about-defeating-isis/ I listen to the same message from the president, keeping in mind that we don't have the answers. Then, I hear a guy that is trying to maintain the idea of America as a place for all kinds, the "melding pot" as it has always been known during my lifetime, and fail to understand the obstinance of the right. I read the a...
